Macao’s commitment to global collaboration was highlighted by Vincent U, President of the Macao Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute, who explained how cross-border partnerships could foster memorable tourism experiences and unlock new investment opportunities. "Macao aims to be a golden brand among international metropolises," he said, reflecting the city's ambition to continue innovating and evolving.


Insights into the Future of Urban Innovation and Tourism


During the conference, experts delved into topics such as the intersection of creativity and sustainability in urban development. Keynote speakers like Shahbaz Khan, Director of UNESCO's Regional Office for East Asia, underscored the role of cities in fostering cultural diversity and innovation. "Macao exemplifies how cities can enhance their brand through cultural integration and creative industries," Khan noted.


In line with this, a special roundtable titled "Her City, Her Economy" celebrated the vital role of women in shaping the future of urban development. The discussion focused on how female leaders are driving innovation in tourism, business, and cultural exchange, making cities more inclusive and sustainable.

One of the highlights of the conference was the unveiling of the 2024 Great Wall Award for Culture & Tourism Branding. Recognizing the best cultural and tourism campaigns, the award ceremony spotlighted Gansu Province’s integrated marketing campaign as the Gold-Level winner. The awards highlighted how destinations can effectively blend marketing, cultural heritage, and tourism to create lasting global appeal.


Throughout the conference, the spotlight was also placed on Macao’s unique cultural and tourism offerings. The city's blending of gastronomy, art, and entertainment has positioned it as a leader in creative tourism, and its involvement in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network is a testament to its ongoing efforts to fuse culture and innovation for sustainable growth.

Notably, Scott Chen, Managing Director of Brand Finance China, shared the 2024 Global City Brand Index Report, which revealed that European cities dominate the global rankings, with Asian cities, including Hong Kong, Beijing, and Shanghai, rising to prominence. Chen emphasized the importance of brand innovation and value in driving a city’s global influence.


Meanwhile, the “Annual Cultural Tourism Brand and Communication Trend Report” presented by Zhang Tingting, Executive Chairwoman of the World Cities Branding Conference, identified key trends shaping the future of tourism. From the rise of immersive tourism experiences to the increasing significance of local cuisine in global marketing, the report highlighted how cities are adapting to the evolving demands of the travel industry.
