Filipino cuisine is a feast of bold flavors, rich textures, and comforting spices. So Nomads Media invited some foreign friends to try three classic Filipino dishes, and their reactions were nothing short of excitement and surprise.

Sisig: The Crispy & Chewy Delight
First up, sisig—a sizzling, savory dish made from finely chopped pig’s face and ears. It’s crispy, chewy, and bursting with flavor. One taster described the texture as “satisfyingly crunchy,” making every bite a delightful experience. Traditionally served on a sizzling plate with calamansi and chili, sisig is a Filipino favorite that’s both indulgent and unforgettable.
Kwek-Kwek: A Street Food Favorite
Next was kwek-kwek, a popular street food snack consisting of deep-fried quail eggs coated in a spiced orange batter. Crispy on the outside and soft inside, this simple yet flavorful dish won over our tasters. Cristian from Colombia was especially impressed, giving it an 11 out of 10! The contrast of textures and the perfect balance of seasoning made it a standout favorite.

Filipino Siomai: A Flavorful Twist
Lastly, our guests tried Filipino siomai, a local version of the beloved dumpling. Unlike the traditional steamed siomai, the Filipino take is packed with seasoned meat, wrapped in thin dough, and often served with a delicious soy and chili sauce. One taster was surprised by how well the seasoning and texture came together, making it one of the best dumplings they’ve ever had.
